Ok ladies, I am new to working out in general. I am 30 yrs old and am training for boot camp. For two months now I have been jogging/walking 2 miles a day. Do as many push ups and sit ups as I can a day and numorous other cardio type exercizes. I HAVE to lose 5 pound to be in standard to go to boot camp. I have lost 5 inches througout body but have gained 2 pounds.
I understand that I may be building muscle and it is heavier than fat but facts are that I have to lose 5 pounds. I am 5'10" and weigh 181.
I have been on a 1200-1500 calorie a day diet. I have to eat if Im working out.
Any suggestions as to why this is happening and how I can lose pounds while working out. I think this is realistic, as far as goals go so why is it not working after two months. I am getting seriously discouraged.

Please help a newbie. THanks.

How long time do you have before going to the boot camp?
Don't stop training and forget about the scale for now.

I am going in May. My concern is that I have been bustin hard for 7 weeks now. I don't expect it to happen overnight. I have noticed my strengh and stamina getting much better. But the military doesn't care if your overweight, your overweight. I was just wondering if there is something I am doing wrong.

When my son went in the Navy he only had to make weight that one weekend. If it is the same for you the way around it is to fast or near fast the day or 2 days before. This is not healthy, but the weight thing is really a stupid technicality. You are probably in better shape doing what you are doing than tryig to crash diet and lose those 5 lbs. I wouldnt worry about it until 2 weeks before and then do extra cardio if you still need to lose and then fast that last day before your weigh-in. Once you have been weighed go back to eating normally and working out. My sons recruiter even had him suck in his gut and square his shoulders to make him appear thinner. He said there are lots of tricks to getting around those things. Good luck.

thats what i do when i have to make weight for a wrestling meet. NYS empire games are coming up and about 4 days before the meet i'll probably be about 15-20 pounds over what i usually weigh. i kno its not the healthiest thing to do, but competition wise, its the most effective. if you only need to lose 5 pounds though, you shouldnt have to resort to that. The muscle that you are gaining now will help you to lose more fat and weight later on because muscle burns alot more calories than fat. Most people gain weight when they start to lose it, but then lose weight later on. And try to remember that the healthiest way to lose weight is at the rate of 1-2% of your body fat per week, so that you dont lose any muscle or bone mass. In your case you should only lose about 2 pounds per week, though since you only need to lose 5 pounds less would probably be better.

Correction from above post

Most people gain weight when they start to lose it, but then lose weight later on.

I meant to say that most people tend to gain weight when the start to work out.
