so I was reading about how they supplied a particular bottled water at the Olympia competitions....

Their ad states that "Before Gatorade there was Kool-aid; the next generation of sports drink is Smart Water, and sister product Vitamin Water. Made by a US bottler called Glaceau,"Smart Water begins as an artesian spring in Northern Connecticut. After the water is distilled, a balance of Magnesium, Potassium, and Calcium is introduced, adding electrolytes.

however i am slightly confused...the bottle states there is *zero* sodium...but electrolytes consist of sodium..soooo...can someone please explain in easy terminology..cause i dont want to be drinking this water and bloat up like balloon...

maybe i should just stick to water....but on comp day I was thinking this would be good to sip on to give me alittle boost of energy? I was told to even sip on gatorade...key word *sip*..but that kinda scares me :( help??

Well, gatorade wasn't much of an improvement over kool-aid. An smart water isn't much of an improvement over that.

Sports drinks are by definition over rated. You're getting information from an advertising source.

That said, potassium, magnesium, and calcium are electrolytes, with potassium and sodium being the main ones usually found in sports drinks.

yeah..i never touch sports drink or *glam* water on an every day basis..its just good ol water for me...however, for this one brief occasion i was looking for alittle something to get me through the event..without jeapordizing anything...and my body is extremely responsive, especially now, to everything/anything i put into it..

Are you supplementing potassium?

You should be carbed up for the event, so energy shouldn't be a problem, especially since you will be all keyed up:) Nervous energy is energy

An electrolyte is a substance that will dissociate into ions in solution and acquire the capacity to conduct electricity. The electrolytes include sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium and phosphate. Informally, called lytes. (The clue to the word electrolyte is in the lyte which comes from the Greek lytos meaning that may be dissolved.)

So i'm guessing that sodium is not one of the electrolytes included in smart water.
