Okay, so I got on the scale today and low and behold I am 2 poounds away from my goal of 120 lbs., but my bodyfat is still high (around 22%). Does this mean I have to lose more pounds? Is is possible to lose just 2 lbs. and 4% of bodyfat? I eat anywhere from 1450 - 1650 calories a day, usually in the ratio of 60% carbs, 30% protein, and 10% fat. I also run 3-4 times a week, first thing in the morning. Any help would be appreciated. Also, I was really really looking forward to starting a mass gaining program in September, but I think someone said that my body fat needs to be at 18% before I do that, is that so or is it only applicable to people who will be competing in the near future? |

You know that I like cycling my carbs...... You'll still have enough energy for your work outs and you'll drop fat slowly (around a lbs a week)Two-three days with very low carbs and one day with carb up. Low carb days, you'll eat some oats in the morning and for the rest of the day you'll eat some fruits and veggies. On your carb up day, eat some rice, potatoes, bread whatever. Avoid all saturated fat thou (but don't be afraid of the good fats). To begin a mass gaining routine you don't need to have your body fat% on a certain level. You start when you want. Best luck to you lumina, and please tell me how it goes! -------------- - Nina :o) La vie est toujours aussi belle..... |

Okay, I will try this whole carb cycling thing starting June 24th. I would start this week but my plans will be blown when I go to see my parents this coming weekend. I'll try to keep everyone updated on my new adventure. Gracias |

You are on the right track. The key would be to increase you lean body mass over time as you reduce your bodyfat. For example at 122 and 22% bfat that is 26pds bodyfat and 95 lean body mass. A good goal as I said would be to increase the lean body mass and if you stay at 120 with lets say 15% bodyfat then you have 18 pds of bfat and now102 lean body mass. So as you gain muscle the scales may not move down...so start that Mass Program any time and cycle the carbs as Nina suggested. I do the same. Good luck! -------------- There is no substitute for hard work.... Leslie |

So I lied, I didn't start carb cycling last week, FedEx ate my order of protein powder! It's a long story. I got my carb cycling plan off of a website that I can't remember right now, but it is basically a 4 day cycle: day 1 - moderate carbs, 2 and 3 - low carbs, 4 - high carbs. All of last week I just followed to moderate carb diet, so that I could start on day 2 whenever it was most convenient for me. So today is officially day 2, my first low carb day, it is going well so far, I've been extremely full most of the day, I think it's because of the high amount of protein (183 grams!) I'm supposed to be consuming on these low carb days. Tomorrow morning I'm going running, so I think it will interesting to see whether or not I pass out (just kidding, I hope). I plan on repeating this cycle for the entire month of July, unless I feel the need to continue. I'm supposedly going to lose 1 pound per complete cycle. So, anyways I will be posting under this discussion periodically, just to let everyone know how it worked out for me (another pic will be coming at the end of July). |

Today is a high carb day, after 2 low carb days, and I feel very much energetic, yesterday I was pretty blah. My tummy actually looks flatter today though, when I wore my cut-off gym top today, I didn't notice that bit o'flesh hanging out there like it usually does AND I was actually able to do one whole close grip chins! |

I like your new pic lumina. It's funny with the carb up days, the more I eat carbs the more sugar cravings I get..... (playing with the insulin) Anyway, when you first start cutting or lowering carbs you'll quickly see a difference; less bloating and 2-3lbs of water gone. Magic! lol -------------- - Nina :o) La vie est toujours aussi belle..... |
