Hey everyone! As it seems to be the story with every second post, I am new to this whole gym/workout scene. I've recently moved from my hometown and started university full time, and so my daily routine has changed in the last few months and the extra weight is becoming noticable.

I used to be fairly active, love the outdoors, did a bit of rock climbing, but was always on the go. Since I've moved and don't know my new area as well, I've become sheltered, focusing on school and work. I've recently bought a gym membership for the campus facility, but don't know where to start.

Free weights make me a bit nervous still, as the gym thing is new to me. There is access to many machines, which I am comfortable using. In short I would like to loose a few pounds, but nothing extreme, and tone up my body, especially in my stomache. Does anyone around have any suggestions for what I should be using, or maybe some pointers about free weights for newbies like me?

Any information is considered valuable right now! thanks so much.

Lana - The best workout you can do at first is to do a bit more learning. :) Check out the Exercise Resources at the top of the page and you'll find workouts as well as how to's. Browse that area a bit and you'll find descriptions of individual exercises. Also check out the thumb tacks in each forum and you'll be better able to ask specific questions. Oh - and welcome to the site.
