Hi, I am in my second week of the program, and I have been pretty religious about diet and exercise. My main concern is that my clothes don't feel any looser...someone once told the first few weeks you begin weightlifting it breaks down your muscles so they are bulkier and not in the nice normal threads, and retain water so you may "fatter" the first few weeks of training.
Is this true, can anyone else attest to this feeling?
thanks

It's true that when you start working out, your muscles will grow faster than you loose the fat, so in the beginning the difference in the clothes is minimal, you might even grow instead (I gave up on home pilates because I din't know that, and now pilates doesn't seem advanced enough). Follow the plan, and give it a couple of weeks more, and then look at yourself again.

Hey Olivia! Great job so far. Don't get discouraged so soon. Remember, you're in this for the long haul! You're doing this to become a stronger, healthier person. The weight loss isn't your primary motivator. How have you been feeling? How fast people lose fat in the beginning of a regimen has a lot to do with how much they weigh going into it. People who have lots of visceral fat (fat that has accumulated in and around their internal organs in their midsection) tend to lose weight very rapidly in the beginning. People who are just a bit overweight, with most of their fat accumulated under their skin in their thighs/butts don't lose it as quickly in the beginning. Keep your protein intake on the high side, especially within a half hour after you lift. Your muscles will hold onto more water while they heal themselves, but making sure that you're drinking enough water will actually minimize water retention.
Don't worry about the clothing thing. It takes a difference of almost ten pounds to drop a size, and two weeks isn't enough time for that. Good luck.
