some of you may have already answered this question on another board but i'll ask it again! i'm 20 years old, about 6'2 and weigh 160 pounds. i've always been a hard gainer. i havent been able to put any weight on no matter what i do. i just started working out about 2 weeks ago now. i'm on whey iso burst which i also just found out isnt the greatest but it will do for now. i'm just wondering if i should also use a weight gainer. i've been told both yes and no. it would be nice to hit around 3-4000 calories a day but i dont know how i'll do that at my house! my mom is always on some kind of diet so everything is "half the fat this" and "low calorie that".
if i go with a weight gainer, are there any in particular i should try? and also, is it ok to mix it with the whey iso burst? i've heard all kinds of different results with hard gainers but if i did hit around 4000 calories a day, how fast would the weight pack on? thanks guys this site is awesome by the way |

There is no such things as hard gainers- it is just a myth by those that need to do more research into there diet and excercise plan.
Let me tell you why I say this. I use to consider myself a hard gainer. I could never put on any weight, no matter how hard I thought I tried. Then I did a lot of research, and realized that when I really broke down my diet, tore apart my workout routine, and rebuilt them to a solid form, then I experienced the gains I desired. So look into your diet closely, see what needs to be changed around, and change it. Fill out a nutrition profile on FT, it helps you see what kind of nutrient and calorie breakdown you need. Second, look into your workout routine, break it down into a more efficient and mass building program, an FT fitness profile will help you do that. If you decide on a weight gaining product, I would recommend the following as a Meal Replacement shake- Cytogainer by Cytosports. It has a lot of good healthy fats, carbohydrates, and whey protiens. It also tastes decent. I wouldnt add it to a meal, I use it as one of my core 6 meals a day, since it is around 600 calories (900 with milk instead of water) per serving. And remember, hard work does result in great gains, you just need to break it down a bit and figure out what you are doing wrong so you can fix it :) Good Luck! -------------- :Hard work equals great results!: |

the one that worked the best for me was the one from muscle tech ... 22 pounds in three mounth
i thin you need a gainer if you re not able to have a 'good diet' (in your case, because of your mom) |

After I drop my weight and burn the rest of this fat I intend to start gaining and putting on muscle mass, about another month I should be down to where I want to be. When gaining how much weight should you put on and how much should turn into muscle? I hear you can only gain 1 lb of muscle per month...everything over that is just fat. So do you only adjust your diet to gain that 1 lb, or go over so your body isn't starving itself? If my maintenance is about 2300 what should I look at taking in to put on what I need to gain, about 2800?

you know... ever since i was about 14 and still skinny i was always telling my mom to stop buying low fat everything but she never did. as soon as i found out that i should be hitting around 300o calories a month i was like, whoa! no wonder i havent been gaining! i think i'll check out that muscle tech gainer that maxcdc mentioned. any other suggestions though? can i get muscle tech from gnc or should i try somewhere else? i've been to sndcanada.com a few times and they seem to have a decent selection and fairly good prices. thanks again

Muscle Tech is over priced in my mind, not worth the extra money. That is why I use the cyto gainer, works just as good and keeps money in your pocket. It is also available at just about any nutrition store (including GNC) since it is made from a large well known company (makers of musclemilk).-------------- :Hard work equals great results!: |

Make your own....combine protein powder, oats, natural peanut butter and heavy cream....split it up twice per day for instance. You know what is in it, very calorie dense. You can add a banana also if you like.

Just wanted people's thoughts on this supplement...I have read some nasty reviews of N2 a fairly popular gainer and haven't seen many other good gainers in terms of price to servings ratio and decent tasting....I understand that mixing some yourself is better but given that this person will not bother to do so....and rather just mix powder with milk....is this a good choice? 10lb for 20$ with 1000 calories per serving...i am thinking it will probably be 500...twice daily?
