Are they safe/effective? I can use some weight for the upcoming football season but I dont want to get fatter. Has anyone used them for sports and if so did it help? What kind is the best?

You will be much better off making your own. Most commercial ones are loaded with sugar and empty calories(fillers) to make a turd. Try mixing oatmeal, whey, and natural peanut butter twice per day. Quality food, good protein, nice calories. You know what is in it.

Hey bb1fit. Can you give us a sample of how to make a MRP? Looking at the ones in GNC, they are expensive. Thanks.

Well, the original question was reffering to weight gainers. This can easily be accomplished as mentioned above. An MRP could be 1/4 cup oatmeal, 1-2 scoops whey protein or one scoop whey and 1/2 cup cottage cheese, and if fats are needed, 1 tbsp. of flax, or 1 tbsp. natural peanut butter. For gaining, a good option is to double the above, and add 2-4 tbsp. of heavy cream.

Ther best way to gain - is to eat CLEAN. Empty sugar calories are a no win. Oatmeal, peanut butter, 100% whey powder are a GREAT concoction- and you can adjust it to your taste. the ONLY premixed gainer I have tried and liked was ProLabs N-Large. 600 Calories and 52g protien per serving- but again- it doesnt beat doing it yourself and KNOWING exactly whats in it. I still use N-Large right before bed actually.

I think the best way to gain weight is to do like the others have been sayin, do it on your own. I am trying to "bulk up" without adding fat myself. I eat 5-6 times a day, or try to anyway, or eat 3-4 times a day, and get a MRP(i like prolab's nlarge2) and use it once/twice a day...I did this, I gained about 10 pounds this summer doing this plus lifting weights, make sure you eat healthy foods, high in protein, low in carbs...especially protein if you want to add muscle.....good luck...
