Hi all I am 31, workout 3-4 times a week and need a lot of support in trying to get rid of 60 lbs of bodyfat. I do have a problem with 2 things....one is eating (though I have had that under controll for a few months now...the other is motivation for doing cardio...any hints?

Hey Scott, glad to have you at FreeTrainers. I can't offer much in the way of hints, I am trying to GAIN weight. It sounds like you are doing really well already. Just remember what you've accomplished and maybe set goals and then reward yourself when you reach them. Good luck. I personally feel that the eating is by far the hardest part, so you are well on your way!

Thanks, I have always gained weight easily. Most of it as fat, cause as a kid I sat and read a lot. Now I love to workout or be active. Do you or anyone else have a clue how to use the meal planner? I tired to and it gave me a daily calorie allowance of almost 5000 cals!!!! On that type of diet I would be 400 instead of 298! I input a dietplan to loose weight not gain.

Mutt, even though your program calls for the ft weight loss, did you make sure you indicated that your metabolism was slow? This could be the reason why the calorie amount calculcated to over 4,500.

As far as motivation, I believe that comes from partially from results and wanting to obtain results. Just stick to what you're doing...but pay particular attention to your diet and cardio exercises at least 3x per week and you'll be melting that fat away! Take it from me...I lost weight in a very short period of time.

Good luck!

I will have to defer to Rob or another moderator on that question. I am not sure why it would be so high if you are toning. Mine isn't nearly that high and I am on a mass gaining program... What exactly did you sign up for? Mass and toning? How tall are you? 298, hmm, I wonder if since you are such a big dude, it has upped it accordingly. I mean, I take in 4-4,500 cals a day and have gained very little fat. You can, with dedication, have a load of calories and get leaner, but definately massive too.

Then it sounds like a slight glitch in the program. How are your results so far with eating 2,000 cals? You can adjust by 250 calories per week, depending on your results and generally how you feel (e.g. if you're tired, maintain or increase cals. by 250, etc.).

Your weight training and cardio exercises will increase your demand for calories! Therefore, you will have to make adjustments as you go along.

Good luck!

That's pretty good! Once you stabilize your cardio program, you'll notice a big difference in the amount of weight you can lose in a short period of time.

Hi mutt my profile sounds similar I started at 4600 cals, 260 protein 650 carb. 48 fat. I am looking at loosing weight also and I have lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks mind you I cant come close to the cals, carbs, protein mut I am keeping the fat part down and increasing the proteins. Cardio will do it for you. As far as a motivator think of a thinner healthier you. Good luck

I am impressed 15 lbs in two weeks!!!! I just have trouble believeing that I will loose at 4600 cals a day....every doc I have been to for weight loss has told me to decrease my cal.....so far it has worked I eat 4-5 times a day each high in portein and veges. I have cut most breads out as well as soda. I stay very active even when I am not lifting. I really think that I just need to hit 3-4 cardio days a week for a few months and the lbs will shed off. But I also realized something a few months ago. I am 6 foot 1 and weigh 298 I have 31.5 inch thighs, 18.5 inch arms. I can out lift men 10 years younger and 100lbs lighter. I am meant to be big. That said I do not mean fat big, but lean muscle big. My overall goal is to loose 60 lbs of bodyfat and have a 240 lbs muscle with a targeted bf of 12%( I am at 29 right now). All my family are big people. I am never going to have the fabled six pac..I am ok with that but I do want to look like I lift and that people think of me as a lifter.

Mutt - you sound like your psyched to hit your goals. Most MD's accept the traditional 3 large meals a day but they're starting to see the wisdom of 5 or 6 smaller meals. You can hit the same amount of calories and still lose weight since your body is working just digesting food and the smaller amounts at a time stop a lot of fat storage.

Yup...you've hit the nail on the head Mike! The smaller meals per day actually help stop fat storage as the body no longer has to go into "starvation" mode.

Mutt- it sounds like you are doing great so far. Keep up the good work. Cardio plays in a big part in weight loss. I try to do 5-6 days of some kind of cardio. If you go to the gym, the best advice I can give you is to alternate machines(bike, stairstepper, treadmill, etc.) Also, if you are trying to gain muscle, do three days of cardio (80-90% of your heart rate) and maybe two days of fat burn (60-70% of your heart rate) that way you won't lose muscle along with the fat. Good luck, hope you meet your goals.... you are doing great right now.

Hello! Im 20 and weigh about 68 kg's i'm travelling through Canada from Australia and suddenly put on 8 kilos. I am to return home with in the next three months, and would like to lose that extra weight.
I currently go to the gym 3 time a week and do 30 min cardio, 30 min crosstrainers circuit and 15 min of stretching.
My duet runs along the lines of something like this
Breakfast: mushroom/onion/egg whites
Lunch: Soup
Arvo snack: crab meat w/ advacado
Dinner: Roasted veggies
i have lost 2 kilos in the last 4 weeks is something i can do to speed it along, how much water should i be drinking?
Thanks

I used to have a problem with motivation for cardio as well. Here is my suggestion....Find something that you like, something fun. If possible, something you enjoy doing with a partner (friend or even a child). Sports maybe...baseball, tennis, basketball??? This is what worked for me....I decided at the end of last year that I wanted to run long distances. At the time 1/4 mile was a long distance for me. LOL But...I loved playing Laser Tag with my son, so I invested in a couple good sets for Christmas. My family began playing laser tag in my large back yard many evenings a week. How could I resist my cute little boy saying "Don't quit now mom." or "I'm coming get you." Anyway, it is fun and keeps me running until now... about 6 months later...I am able to run 2 miles on the track.
