My surgeon has recommended weight training for his post weight loss surgery patients (I am one). I am currently doing one hour (30 min. cardio hill on treadmill and 30 min. freestyle swimming) 7 days a week, but need to add weight training. I am restricted on ab work for another two months, but the rest of me is ready to start building muscle. Anyone have any suggestions or can they direct me in the right direction for further info on a good workout that won't endanger hurting my healing internal organs?

Eb,

First off, don't do ANY exercises without running them by your doctor first. Just because it's just your abs that need to heal doesn't mean that you can do exercises for every other body part. Your abs are used in almost everything that you do, and they are definitely used as stablizer muscles when weight training.

If it is possible for you to do weight training at all, then I would recommend machines only. The machines will maintain your body position, keeping your abs out of the mix. However, once you start to heal, get back to your abs as soon as it is feasible.
