Figured I'd post in here, as most of the interested members of this board post in the powerlifting forum...
What are you reading??? At the present time, this is what is gracing my desk: Science and Practice of Strength Training by Vladimir Zatsiorsky Mastery of Hand Strength by John Brookfield The New Rules of Lifting by Lou Schuler and Alwyn Cosgrove The Grapplers Guide to Nutrition by Micheal Fry and John Berardi Combat Abs by Matt Furey Superjoints by Pavel Tsatsouline I generally have an hour between classes, so whenever I have nothing else to do, I come back to my room, check a few websites, and open up a book. -------------- Iron and chalk. Quoting from bigandrew: I resently read explosive lifting for sports...good book. ============= Is that the one by Newton? I'm in the middle of it right now. First few chapters were okay, but now I'm in the meat of it, and it's great! -------------- Michael Powerlifters - We eat raw meat, and sleep naked in the snow... |

I'm going to give SPST my personal recommendation. These two should be madatory reading for anyone that ever wants to train others.

Science and Practice of Strength Training by Vladmir M. Zasiorsky.
Just a little light reading ;-) Just finished "The Grapplers Guide to Nutrition" by Michael Fry and John Berardi. Probably one of the better nutrition books out there, and I would recommend it for athletes other than combat athletes as well. As well, completed "Combat Abs" by Matt Furey. Never been a huge Matt Furey fan, and this book certainly didn't help. Although, in the words of a Scottish strength coach, I've never gotten any dumber by exposing myself to different methodologies. -------------- Iron and chalk. I'm reading Relax Into Stretching and The Naked Warrior by Pavel Tsatsouline and enjoying them thanks to a buddy of mine.-------------- I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle-victorious. --Vince Lombardi "Decide what you want, decide what you are willing to exchange for it. Let us know how you like them.
Just finished "Mastery of Hand Strength" by John Brookfield. I would recommend it for anyone not knowing where to start with their grip training, or for anyone interested in a few new exercises to take their grip to the next level. It has a lot of different exercises and methods for training grip. -------------- Iron and chalk. Pain is only temporary, it is in your mind. If you can still walk, then you can still run. |

Just wondering wrestler, alot of the books you've recommended (not just in this thread) don't seem to be available for some reason, any idea why?

Name a book and I'll find a way to get it to you.
A lot of what I read is translated from russian. Some are online. I personally know John Berardi, so he got me his book when it came out. A lot of what I read isn't necessarily "mainstream". Although everything on that list is well reviewed. Hence, it may not always be available in amazon. Hell, I'm still trying to get a hold of a hard copy of "supertraining", one of THE foremost texts on strength training. -------------- Iron and chalk. Pain is only temporary, it is in your mind. Pavel speaks english. He just has a thick accent, and seems kinda mean...
I was referring to a lot of the old sport science texts I get, as well as some zatsiorsky. Not easy to find. Hell, Charles Poliquin found it easier to learn german than to find translated works. -------------- Iron and chalk. Pain is only temporary, it is in your mind.
