I am going to the fitness centre 5 days a week. I want to work out my Chest/abs on Mondays, my legs/abs on Wednesday, back/abs on Friday. I will be doing cardio only on the tredmill all five days. Tuesday and Thursdays cardio only.

Where should I encorprate biceps, triceps, shoulders?

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

i would put bis on monday, shoulders on wed and tris on friday. then you are training opposing muscles (ex chest/bi is push/pull instead of chest/tri which is push/push).. you will still have plenty of str after say your chest workout to do bis instead of hittinh tris, which was secondary already in the chest exercises

I agree with bropie you could do that and it could work out well. But if your only going to be doing each muscle group once a week, and your going to the gym 5 days a week, why not just do 1 muscle group a day. Kind of like
Monday - Chest/Abs
Tuesday - Bic's + Forarms
Wednesday - Legs
Thursday - Tri's + Deltoids
Friday - Back
Saturday - Rest
Sunday - Rest

This way you'll still be able to do your cardio. But, rather then cramming all the lifting into 3 days, if you spread it out to 5 days then you'll have more energy for each muscle group and have a more intense work out. If you put Chest, Biceps, and Abs together, your not going to have as much energy to do your biceps after your chest or vice versa and you wont get as intense of a work out in as you could if you spread it out more. That's just my opinion.

That would work too.. If your wanting to do abs you could do abs on the other days just to tone. Always leave atleast 1 days better if you have 2 days of complete rest.

5 days a week is too much for a beginer to be doing dvels......honestly anything over 4 and your not getitng enough rest. This depends from person to person......but for 80% of us......more rest never hurts.....more excercises does.

For a 3 day split

chest, bis
rest
legs, tris
rest
shoulders, back
rest
rest

I do abbs 4x a week.......however 2 days are light and only one or 2 excerces. Only by body weight......my other 2 days I use weight. However i'm pretty advanced and I know what I can do and can't.......being a beginer i'd do abbs 2 times a week. On mon and fri's.

Probably true about the 5 days a week for a beginner, didn't think about that...

I like your 3 day split bigandrew. I was looking for a change, so I think I'll give it a try for the next 4 weeks ....Thanks!

only thing is your doing shoulders 1 day after chest........which both work tris........shoulders may suffer a lil......put legs in middle of week, so you have 3 days to recoup....from chest so your more fresh for shoulders. jmo

rest builds muscle.......not working out.

If your fully rested.......your body is at its strongest is it not? There by more weight can be lifted= bigger gains.

I lift 4 days a week....every 8 to 9 weeks I take a full week off. every week I can add 5 to 10lbs a working set.

I Do:
mon = chest/abbs
Tues. = legs/squats/dead lifts
Wed = Rest
Thurs. = Back / Shoulders
Fri. = Biceps/ triceps
Sat = rest
Sun = rest
With cardio 5 -6 days in the morning.
After 5 weeks I like to try to switch up and use different exercises for the muscle groups.
If anyone can improve this feel free to reply, IAM always up for new ideas!!!

Have you ever tried the eliptical machine? Within 10 minutes I worked off the same amount as I did with the treadmill in 45 minutes. It's a little difficult to start out (just awkward) but once you get going....it's great. Hope you try it out :cool:
