Here's an interesting topic my b/f and I got starting on while I was visiting him....
He mentioned that I tend to carry myself in such a way that tends to hid my true personality from the rest of the world. This has always been a problem for me. I have always associated beauty and femininity with pride and abrasivness, so I have made a point to try not to act in such a fashion. Deep down though I know a lot of stems from my inability to be proud of myself and my achievments, my looks and what I have made of my life. I'm not trying to get into a whole self-esteem thing here, what I'm trying to extract from you all (men and women alike) is what defines true femininity to you (aside from the obvious anatomy thing). Is it dress, demenure, certain characteristics? What are the outside things that guys look for in feminine women? Dress, clothes, makeup, personality? What do the women here feel is the one thing that defines their femininity? This may sound like a strange thing to ask, but I really would like to get some outside objective opinions on this. |

I don't know - I am a tomboy, bruiser, manly girl through and through. i wear skirts ocasionally and have maybe one pair of heels.
I wear doc martins and tennis/workout shoes a majority of the time. My husband says I am very sexy, so in some way i must be feminine. I do like to smell nice, does that count? And I usually have at least eyeliner on.... -------------- If you fall down seven times, get up eight. |

I think the fact that I am attracted to men is what makes me feminine.
I too am a bas a$$ type of girl so I always tell people, don't call me lady, cuz "i ain't never been accused of being a lady anyway" I like to look sexy too, though I guess the main thing is the simple fact that I am attracted to MEN.:) -------------- It is no fun to be normal!!! |

Yo!
Women are very complicated creatures. It is therefore understandable that the explanation of "femininity" would be equally as complex. I shall do my best to summarize and give my personal perspective. Femininity is: 1. A woman who is sexy and appealing without trying - or, simply, "using" your looks, personality, and character to just-this-side-of "working it". 2. A woman who is self-assured and confident (without being arrogant) and a little backward all at the same time. Similarly, being forceful and submissive all at the same time, too. 3. Looking just as comfortable in jeans and a T-shirt with no make-up kicking back on a Sunday afternoon as you do in a black skirt and heels, ready for a night on the town. 4. Being able to give your man one of a million different smiles and have him know exactly what you're thinking. 5. Oh, and nice boobies. Cheap shot - sorry! That last one was sexist, degrading and superficial (but only on the surface!)LOL TSMD |

LOL number 5 is funny! I think it is a woman that can be somewhat "manly" when needed, yet still retains tht essence that makes a woman a woman!-------------- LIFT HEAVY! BECOME STRONG, LIKE BULL! 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

Tenorsaxman, I like your description of it in #2: "self-assured and confident without being arrogant and a little backward too".

I believe femininity comes from an inner confidence in your womanhood. There are all different kinds of women, but there's a common 'essence' that is expressed in ones demeanor.

Yep, thats exactly it. A girl can be very tomboyish, rough, soft or whatever but femininity will somehow always let a man know shes all woman :)

In my thoughts, nurturing and yet strong, soft and loving yet abraisive and demanding when needed, able to face adiversity and danger when someone they care for is in danger and able to sooth them after it's over, able to make the world light up in there presence and yet draw you to them when they are in need and things are dim, walk in the nature that instills respect and yet show's humility, and most of all, can show companionship and determination when things become hard and work is needed. I hope this doesn't sound sexist, but it is some of the most attractive traits I know ,and not all of them but the most important to me, this is what I associate with femininity whether a lady, a tomboy or a girl, however they may term themselves.-------------- A determined mind is the best weapon in any situation, a strong body is the road to victory.
