I am curious about what to eat to help me perform better and wake up faster. What foods that are out there and whats the amount of what to eat like how many vegetables and fruits to eat whats all this about??? I'm at square 1 sure my friends think that I'm a health nut just because I walk the extra mile to go to subway over Burger King and how I always carry a bottle of water around. Seriously I'm sooo far from where I want to be and really want to get their but how? I didn't notice how lost I was in this whole healthy eating thing that once I was in... I have a folder full of about 100 pages about everything their is to know about healthy eating and cannot make heads or tales of it. THIS STUFF IS MORE CONFUSING THAN GEOMETRY! someone help please...

get a pen and write down your lifeplan, aims and goals and then stick to it. Don't read the next best idea and change again and again. To start make golden rules that always apply- are you writing down your rules??

Start- eat 5 to 7 fruits/veg per day but not after 5pm. Cut sugars from diet. Eat seven small well planned balanced meals a day. Eat oats, cereal, shreddies or ?? for breakfast. Allow only 1/2 pint of skimmed milk daily. Only wholegrain rice/bread/pasta. Snacks are walnuts or figs/fruit or bran crispbread with peanut butter.
You make the rules- not me, but you get the idea. This will give you the guidelines of what to buy in grocery to begin a better eating regime.

At another level- is to check out calories or carb content of foods and make limits and goals. look at a potion size you normally serve yourself and cut it by 1/3 and make it a new limit- after all you can't be hungry- you are eating 7 times a day! SMALL MEALS!

As the months go on you will pick up things you know about yourself, food with it's cause and effect on you.

Drop in at the deep end- getting your lifeplan shopping in now you have made aims/goals/perameters. Start up and do the food diary input here on line. It will add up everything for you. It's quite amazing. make it fun and be very patient- even if you lose one pound a fortnight it's the best way honestly.

Look for the post Grocery list for a bodybuilder, honestly, we are all bodybuilders.

Neil is on the right track - eat a small balanced meal every 3 hours - some lean protein, some vegetables, or fruit, some whole grain like oats or a nice whole grain bread, or brown rice.

It takes practice and planning to eat right, and kudos to you for going the extra mile to get something healthier. Your friends can laugh their way to the cardiac ward.

Hang around here and ask lots of questions, search for posts in fitbuddy, educate yourself. It is hard to sort out all of the things that are supposed to comprise a healthy diet. Put the articles away, unless they inspire you, and eat when you are hungry, drink lots of water, exercise daily.
