Ok bb1fit, you brought it up. I thought it would make a good thread, especially considering what season it is (new years resolutions. The gyms are usually full of people getting trained by people that have no idea what they are doing...).
And so, who wants to start???

hi I'd like to remove fat from my midsection...how do i do it? how do i tone my left butt cheek? :)

Generally if they use machines, say anything about spot reducing, or use the word 'toning' I would pull a Forrest Gump and run like hell....

Funny though, FT uses the word toning in its programs.

FL - some people have a problem with the word toning but not everyone does. It's mostly a matter a semantics and how it's used.

I have a serious problem with it. But thats a seperate thread.
Menace, thats a very good guideline.
I think I would ask for al their "promises" in writing as well. I have never been afraid to guarantee the results I could get with my clients, so why should any other trainer be wary of putting them on paper?

It is tough to guarantee results....there is that one little variable you have no control over. DIET! I can always tell when a client does not change, even though they are working their ass off in the gym, but never change.

I can tell the guys that will cheat on diet. I'm sure you can spot them too. If these guys don't want to change, they go through serious metabolic work.

I understand what you are saying, but I am yet to find someone I couldn't help progress towards their goals.

Oftentimes, it is easier to tell a client what foods to eat, rather than what not to eat. By adding in a few choice foods, you can help get rid of a few less than choice foods. Most people find this easier than getting rid of other things.

Back on topic, I think a good question would be cardio for fatloss? If they say an hour of steady state cardio in our training sessions, then they don't deserve to train.
