I'm new to the community, and I was just wondering if anybody could help me out. I find even though I eat pretty well, if I cut a lot of the fat out of my diet, I lose out on stuff like protein and some vitamins. I know it's important to stop eating fatty things; but I want to satisfy all of the categories in my nutrition program. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you, A.J.

Chicken, fish, egg whites are great sources of protein with lower fat content. You can't cut out too much of your fat, but eat lower cuts of red meat and stick to items that are high in protein and low in fat. It will take a lot of reading labels until you get used to it. Soon you will just be able to go in the grocery store and now what types of food to buy.

Another advice is try to avoid all "finished and already ready" food....... Try to eat everything from the base. Like instead of orange juice, eat the oranges, eat the veggies almost raw etc.

Diet and nutrition can be one of the hardest things to get your head round - read the message boards and source as much info as you can.
one other thing.....when you look at food ask yourself this question - what am i going to get from this?
sooner or later if you take this sport seriously you will find that taste comes in 2nd and the nutritional value takes priority.
good luck and keep at it!!

It's hard to defeat the notion that fat doesn't make you fat. But it's true. I'd worry less about your fat intake and more about total calorie intake. The science that told you that fat is bad and is to be avoided at all costs was overly simplistic and based on incomplete studies. Dietary fat is, in fact, essential in your diet.
