Hi, I'm a female at 155 pounds and I'm 55 years old.
I'm in my first week. I'm enjoying it! When it hurts do I stop right away or do I do more reps? If so , how far should I go? Thank you, tiette

Hi and welcome to FT, tiette! Great to have you here!
It depends on what you mean by "hurts". Discomfort type hurt as you challenge your muscles is one thing, pure PAIN is another and can become injury.
You want to challenge your muscles, thereby tearing them done tiny bit by bit so they can rebuild. I like to take my last couple of reps and go slower and more controlled, you can really "feel" it. It is more like exhausting yourself than it is a pain when you push those last reps, but if you feel sharp pain, please stop.
Remember to do a warm up and cool down to help alleviate latic acid buildup (I know, I know, many opinions), that terrible sore, stiffness that settles in the next day. There will be some amount of it but it shouldn't be excrutiatingly painful, though some people seem to get more of it than others.
Good luck to you and keep up the great work!!

What is hurting? Do you mean when the muscle feels tired and burning or is there sharp pain. usually pain isn't a good thing, it may mean you are doing something wrong.
When doing a set, the last few reps should be hard to complete, but not painful or impossible.

Resistance training should not "Hurt".
Remember to keep perfect form, if you can't you are definately too heavy.
