Hi everyone, first timer here. Ive been reading the forums every so often for tips and advice so I figure I finally post :)

Here is my sitation:

Around X-Mas I decided I had enough with my weight. At 6ft tall I was pushing 250 lbs with a waist size of about 40. I went on a calorie restricted diet with a total body weight training 2-3 times a week (with cardio) and once a week racquetball.

Now I am 30 lbs lighter (36 waist) and I feel so much better. I am starting to see some muscle definition under my body fat which I still have a decent amount of. Now my dilemna is: when should I start kicking up my weight training? Should I lose some more body fat and weight first? I originally set a weight goal at 199 (hehe I dont want a '2' in front of my weight). I used to be about 180 in high school but that was LONG ago, Im 34 now. I guess the question is how long did everyone stay on a beginners program before they went intermediate (split training, etc)?

Thanks in advance,
Dan

First off Daniel199, congratulations on getting your lifestyle together, and welcome to freetrainers.
Since you are around 12 weeks at it, your body needs a rest from the routine. Thats when it is time to take a week off.
I wouldn't be worried about classifying yourself into a level just yet. I still consider myself a beginner, but thats just me!
I would go into the "weight loss and definition training" program from here (8 week program) leave it at the beginner, or if you want take a look at the intermediate. and keep going with your nutrition.
Hope this helps and good luck.
