After reading a few posts about whey at bed time I am confused. Some people say its good, some say its bad, some indifferent... Some say its not a good idea because its a fast absorbing protien, others say its a great way to stop late night hunger.
Brad confused! Unga!
Currently I take my shake at night before bed, with my glutamine. I don't see this changing because I need something to curb my appetite before bed (which Im usually starving) and whenever I ate, say a chicken breast or can of tuna (yick), my gut would be growling 20 minutes later. The whey shake keeps me full long enough to get to sleep.
Whats the truth behind it? Is it a good idea, a bad or just personal preference?

It's a good idea to give your body some protein before bedtime. If the why is fast or slowly absorbed that depends on what you're mixing the shake with, water or milk?
I personally just take some amino acids before bedtime..... (cannot drink anything or I'll need to pee all night!!! ;o)

I was mixing it with milk for the extra calories, but now that I am taking ZMA I am mixing it with water.

A good option is cottage cheese. Any casein protein. It gels in the stomach before digestion, thus releaing a slow steady stream of aminos. It has been shown to take as long as 6 hours! (This is just best case). If you want to take a whey shake, mix it with some flax oil or even heavy cream(much better taste) if you are not dieting. This will slow digestion. A tbsp. of natural peanut butter is another option.
