i always thought doing 6-8 reps would give me mass but recently ive been reading articles where they say doing 8-10 reps results in mass. which is it?

Maybe both, maybe neither...maybe 4-6 reps. It really depends on your body and what it can handle. I usually follow the 4-6 reps. when trying to add mass. Obviously, heavier you can go, the better.

I remember hearing the 8-10 reps for biceps, triceps, and other isolation exercises. On exercises that work multiple groups like bench press and deadlift, you go heavier and do like 6-8 reps. At least that is what I remember from previous posts.

The key is to hit all types of muscle fibers. This may be both low and high reps for bodyparts. All muscles are composed of 3 fiber types, and the key is to rep for each one. The more predominately fast twitch type for instance, heavy weight, lower reps. Follow up the slow twitch with higher rep range, usually in the 9-12 area. For instance the abs are predominately slow twitch, so heavier weight with fewer reps works well on them to give that "six pack". That is why you usually see people who do tons of reps for abs usually have none.
