I turned 21 back in May and am entering my senior year of college in a week. I got a good internship this summer and just purchased a bike that is not even out yet. I pre-ordered a 2006 Yamaha R1 for March of next year. It is my first street bike and everyone tells me 1000cc bikes are not starter bikes. I've raced motocross my whole life and I ride my cousins R6 pretty often with my permit. Overall I think I'm a pretty good rider and if I do crash it is because I was pushing the limits of myself not the bike. I am getting full leathers with metal plating in the pants because you can bet I plan on taking this thing to a track once I graduate.
I bought the bike because Yamaha is offering a good financing program right now so it seemed to suit me best. I figured in the Spring the financing deals won't be as good because it is prime time to buy a bike. I am going to take the MFS training course so that I can get a reduction on my insurance even though everything they teach I pretty much don't do anyway. The course teaches you to not cover your brake and I always like to have two fingers on the front brake in case you get cut off. I'm excited about my purchase and couldn't sleep last night at all.

I used to have one:(. I wrecked it once and have never felt comfortable on it again so I sold it. I still miss it on those cool summer nights. I had a Blue R6 and it was the first time I ever rode. People said the same thing about that bike. I don't think it is the bike that is dangerous i think it is the person that's riding it.
