How about a 5 cup container? Seriously, I have that problem when I visit my sister-in-law. I can use the same size bowl that I do at my house but in her microwave, the oatmeal just overflows. In my microwave, it swells but never has come out of the bowl. Must be the differences in the microwaves. You must have a oatmeal swelling one

1 min 45 sec. Anything more and you have the above referenced disaster. Unless you're using milk, in which case 2 min is fine......I too learned the hard way :)

I think I've noticed a difference if you use warm water (right out the tap) or cold water (out of the fridge)... I think the cold water is where it's at.... not sure if that makes a differenc or not... Mine doesn't always spill over...

Okay I have pent up hostility toward the microwave so these warm, furry suggestions are not helping. Perhaps if we could direct a little more anger toward the enemy, we might all feel better. I don't think the microwave should win, I really don't.

I don't get how it works, you put the stuff in (non-metal) and hit the buttons, the light comes on and it gets hot. It's witchery. Burn those things at the stake.
