hey hows it going, recently one of my friends who is female said that she would like to start working out with me, even though i told her i go very intense , i have no problem with her working out with me or sprinting. But I was just thinking, what would the effects be on her if she did my sprint or lifting workout????? I dont think she would want to do my liftting workout. But what the positive and negative effects of women sprinting on them?????? And if she did want to do my workout wat would be the positive and negative effects on her???
The goal of my workout is to gain as much lean muscle mass as possible , it's always 3-4 sets of as many reps as i can get up to 10 with suitable weight but no more than 10 reps. it's also meant to get me in great shape to play football. So i didnt want her to do my workout if it would give her unwanted features for a female, does that make sense??? |

as a woman, let me be the first to say that you need to re-evaluate the way you are approaching this because you're going to end up looking like an ass.
i do a more intense weight training program than a good number of the men at my gym. i lift very heavy and do reps in the range that promotes strength and lean mass gain. over the past 18 months, my definition has increased significantly without bulking up too much. why? because i don't have the testosterone to bulk, just like 99.9% of women. i've never been happier with my body than i am now. i'm at my ideal balance of strength and definition, and i got there by going intense and heavy. if your friend is experienced enough to do your workout, let her do it with you. she'll stop if she's not getting the results she wants. keep in mind, that's for her to decide. and i'm confused -- why would sprinting have a negative effect on women? i'm just curious what your logic is here, because it makes no sense. furthermore, i'm not sure what your definition of "unwanted features" is, but whatever it may be, you need to kick it to the curb and let your friend decide for herself what she wants to look like. there is nothing more demeaning than having someone outline how they think you should look -- this isn't 1890. ============ Quoting from GOWAR: So i didnt want her to do my workout if it would give her unwanted features for a female, does that make sense??? ============= -------------- i wish you ill, ice-t. margarine is a liar who announces, "i am butter!" |

if your a football player, should you not be doing less reps? like under 6? to promote strength and explosion to mimic football?

Woman are just as able as a man. My one freshman volleyball player did a parallel box squat with 310 lbs. She is 6'4" and 170. She has a 10'7" approach jump, 32" standing vert, a sub 12 second 100, and is incredibly athletic. Her body fat is 13.5% which is incredible. She is not the only female I work with that has numbers like that. SO please do not hold your friend back because you are still stuck in the caveman age.

ok, maybe yall didnt read the post the way i wanted yall too, but I'm not trying to hold anyone back, and i sure as helll dont think that men are any better than women. And im not stuck in the caveman age. Maybe if yall read the post alittle bit better before jumping to conclusions I just wanted to know what the positive and negative effects would be if any. And i didnt know that if she did my workout if she would end up looking built like a football player. So dont go jumping all over me.

and if you re-read my post, i answered everything that you asked. all you have to do is read into it a little bit. gator gave you an example of what intense strength training can do. i'll spell them out for you since you didn't get it the first time:
positive effects of intense lifting: increase in strength and definition improved athletic ability imagine 6'4" 170 at 13.5% bf. that's a bmi of 21. how many football players do you know with a bmi of 21? negative effects of intense lifting: none. positive effects of sprinting: increased cardiovascular health lean body -- look at olympic sprinters -- do you think they're at some kind of disadvantage? negative effects of sprinting: none. does that answer your question more clearly? and i'll say this again: it is not up for you to be concerned about her looking like a football player. if SHE is worried about having linebacker shoulders, tell her not to work her traps. it's that simple. -------------- i wish you ill, ice-t. margarine is a liar who announces, "i am butter!" |

I don't think GOWAR meant to look like an idiot or say anything inappropriate or demeaning... sometimes people just don't know all the stuff that we do here on FT, that's why he was asking... and yes everyone did answer you correctly... women just don't have the testosterone to get big like men... even if on the same workout program...-------------- My mind tells me to win, my spirit shows me how, and my body delivers. gowar, i am sorry that i took such offense to your post, but regardless of whether you meant to, what you said came across in a very sexist and demeaning tone. as a woman who has been confronted by many a meathead in the gym telling me what is and isn't appropriate for a woman to lift and look like, i am quick to correct anyone, male or female, who questions a woman's capacities in the gym. unfortunately, sometimes i leave my tact behind when i do this. still, i stand by everything that i said.
granted, you are young and probably don't know any better than to say some of the things that you said, and i'm sorry i did not take this into account. just to make sure, is your question answered now? -------------- i wish you ill, ice-t. margarine is a liar who announces, "i am butter!" |

Gowar, I'm not sure if you have sprinting blocks available but if you do be aware that using block over an extended period of time is very dangrous to your knees and should be avoided. I have seen studies that link blocks to knee injuries in female sprinters at much higher rates then male sprinters.

I think women can be more prone to knee injuries in general because of the angle of the femur in the knee joint (due to wider hips)

I have also been told that women have much less balanced strength in quad to hamstring ratio. Their quads are naturally much stronger I think, and this makes them more prone to knee injury. I'm pretty sure this is true in most cases.-------------- I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle-victorious. --Vince Lombardi "Decide what you want, decide what you are willing to exchange for it. it's something most of us have to work on. lifting weights in high school to balance my quad/hamstring strength would've prevented 2 hamstring tears and a lot of missed soccer and softball games. unfortunately i went to a high school that didn't think it was important for the female athletes to lift weights, so i had to figure this out in rehab. all the more reason for women to get in the gym and lift.-------------- if you get me started on quentin tarantino films, chances are you won't be able to shut me up. excuses are really good for making you fat. margarine is a liar who announces, "i am butter!" |
