Is there a good reason I wouldn't want to work shoulders and chest the same day. I was looking at the workout that the gym folks set up for me.
Chest/tris
back/bi
shoulders/legs
I was asking why they didnt have me working chest and shoulders the same day. He said I shouldn't do that. Anyone have a good explanation for that?

yes!i did chest and shoulders the same day for a couple of months, now i have tho werry ugly stripes among my shoulders and chest, why?thats because when u do chest, your chest gets pumped up, then u do shoulders, your shoulders getting pummped up to. So the skin has to move in a direction, but cant, then it gets cut of, and u will have bloody stripes among your shoulders and chest, so dont do it, i learned myself!

Um ok, thats not really the reson but whatever.
Actually shoulder and chest seconadrly muscle in the lift is triceps. From a body building stand point, thats not good, cause if you do chest 1st, then your shoulders won't get a good work out, cause your tris are fatigued.
However if the tris are prefatigued, then the delt will do more of the work, in the military press and junk. Just depends on your goals. If i did shoulder and chestg together I would alternat weeks, which on went 1st in the spilt.....week 1 chest then shoulders, week 2 shoulders then chest. Make sense?
However I wouldn't do shoulders and legs together, legs should alwasy be done by them selves, most of the time, cause thats alot of blood that has to be diverted from the legs to, and all the way up to the shoulders. My split as of now is....
sun back/ shoulders/tri
mon rest
tues chest, bi
wed rest
thurs legs,
fri rest
sat rest
workout looks strange, but I have practice 3 times a week, and I can't train on the same days I practice, nor train tris or shoulders day before practice either. Cheerleading is alot of upper strength, like doing a clean and press over and over again. SO my workouts unfortunally have to "cycle" around practice.

thanks, I prefere a 4 day spilt......but practicing and games, and class........I have no time for it. Actually I haven't trained arms in a while, I have tennis elbow, so thats kinda limiting me on what I can do for arms.

Just as a note, it depends on your schedule, and fitness level, but for a first timer or someone that hasn't lifted much or can only get to the gym 3 times per week, most gym personal trainers will recommend the chest/tri's, back/bi's, shoulders/legs split...

Wow thanks for the information guys!!!!!!! I had a personal trainer a few years back, and the program she gave me was shoulders, and chest the same day???? Usually I do chest first, then shoulders (figured I had weak shoulders, he he.) That sure makes alot of sense, duh why didn't I ever think of that. Going to do some adjustments to my program thanks again :)
