On the automatic program here presumably you are meant to do and 'extra' workout areas you have chosen in the same session as the rest you your workout? (anything else would be stupid right..)
As well, i don't see how you can reach even 45 minutes with some of the sessions shown here, with just 12 sets of reps for some days - each taking perhaps less than a minute and with a 30 second gap inbetween -- how do you get this up to 45 mins to an hour. .. have i been working out wrong?!

the workout times vary with different programs, as long as you are performing the exercises properly and targeting the specific muscles you are fine. Why do they have to reach a 45 minute workout hiatus??

I heard that working out for 45 minutes was the optimal time...or is it just that your workout should last less than 45 minutes?

Don't get too worked up about time. Time should be irrelevant, just so long as you don't go too far over an hour. Focus on the quality of the workout. A crappy workout that takes an hour is obviously less effective than a good one that only last 30 minutes. Try playing with your tempos, as well, like lowering the weights slower.

My workouts are about 1 1/2 hrs. - I never felt as if I was doing too much - Am I?
For the first 20-30 minutes I hardly rest between sets - I complete one set of "arms" then one of "legs" then I return to "arms", the "legs" and so on, in this fashion. I start giving myself little breaks after about 30 minutes...
My question would be - am I actually doing more harm than good?

if your not happy with your routine then change it switch it around a little but dont add more sets or more reps then you could overtrain.
