Hello, i'm fourteen and i want to start on a program for working out at home. I am 5'8 and 131 pounds and according to an elecronic scale I have, I am 9% body fat. I want to start working on my whole body, chest, abs, arms, legs etc. I want to know what you think I should be doing and how often i should be doing it. I also want to know how I should be eating.

jondabomb24, Welcome to FT. Start up the FT program for home. Stick to the program doing it properly with good form and you will be happy with the results. Make sure to get plenty of healthy foods in your diet. You can find more information on that in the nutrition section.

Ok, I started to include more protein in my diet. I went to the gym today and kind of just went around and tried out the different machines.

What machines help with abs?

What exercises should I be doing for my abs at home?

I am rather skinny for my age and I was wondering if I should still do cardio.

You dont need machines to work the abs. Good old fashion crunches will do the business fine. Sign up for one of the programs in FT and just follow it, it includes guidelines of what exercises to do and how to do them.

jondabomb24,

What hellscream said is true. You can use machines for weight, but what I like to do is hold a weight against my chest while doing crunches. Sign up for one of the FT programs under "Exercise Program". Add the abs routine to whichever workout you choose. Stick to the program and dedicate a lifestyle to fitness and you will be more than happy with your results :).

You also asked if you should do cardio. Although I would not maintain a lot of energy towards that pursuit if you are trying to gain mass, I would suggest 30 minutes three times a week at 70-80% of your target heart rate. This is just to maintain your cardiac health. If you get in the habit of doing it now, it won't be so hard in the future. It can be a team sport, treadmill, elliptical, etc. etc. Be creative.
