Hi, I was just wondering why my workout from ft has me doing a machine bench press as opposed to using a regular bench press. Can I substitute a regualr bench press for a machine bench press?

Yep.... shouldn't be a problem if you don't have a machine.

Some of the programs on here have the trainee alternating from week to week with different forms of the exercise.
Also check to see if you took machines only.

Thanks for the advice. I do have acces to both a machine and regualr bench at the gym I go to but I just feel I get a better workout without using machines, and just sticking to things like the regular bench and regular squats. Are there advantages/disadvantages with using machines in general?

If you entered beginner in your profile for your workout, this may be the reason. Many beginners are started out with machines, it is normally easier to handle for someone who has never done resistance training. Takes the initial wobbliness of using the stabilizer muscles at the beginning, and gets your body toned so to speak to do the free weights.
