Hello everyone!
I just joined up today, which makes me relieved, because I have been wanting to gain weight for awhile now, and I am finally taking the steps to do so. However, some guidance would surely be appreciated! I am quite confused if I am actually doing the right thing or not.. oh dear. Where to begin?
First, I am 6'1 and I weigh a scrawny 140lbs. My goal weight is 170-180. That's a lot of weight to gain, but with determination and focus, I know I can do it. So, here's where I started. I went to GNC and found "Weight Gainer 1850 (French Vanilla!)" and brought it home with me. I created my profile, and I now have my workout schedule to gain muscle mass. So, I created this "shake" and it was one of the most awful things I ever made. I don't think I am doing it right... here is *exactly* what the directions on the back say:
"Mix 3 cups (400g) into 24 fl.oz. of cold water or 2% reduced-fat milk. Blend throughly until dissolved."
Are you kidding me?? You should see the size of the scoop they have in there. It's huge! So, I did my math. For every 1 scoop (same as 1 cup, there are measurements), there is aproximately 8 fl.oz of milk. So I only made one cup, and it was so thick and gross... I even poured it out in a bowl and mixed it with an electric mixer, and it tasted so chunky and.. ug, nasty. So, other than that problem, how much do I take?? There is no indication of how often you should drink it.. when, or anything. I have also heard of "Meal Replacement Shakes" to increase your intake of proteins and calories, because I know you are supposed to eat more calories that you burn to gain weight, and I am a college student, so I can't eat 6 meals a day on my budget and time schedule! I have also heard of CREATINE, but I don't know WHAT to take, how much, how often, of these three supplements. I am working out three times a day now with this website, but I am just confused about this supplement thing.
What to do? Did I mix the drink correctly? What should I take to get the maxium in weight gain? I'm following my workout schedule, just need some pointers. I don't think it would be very healthy to take 3 shakes of weight gainer 1850, 1 creatine shake, and 3 meal replacement shakes a day!! Doesnt sound right.. lol.
Well, sorry for the novel I typed, but I need guidance down the right path. Any suggestions will be most gratefully recieved. Thanks guys. Looking forward to hearing from you.

WEll my advice is to use them as a supplement only and eat as much whole food as possible. There is a post called the "bodybuilders grocery list" search that on fitbuddy ( fitbuddy is a search engine at the bottom of the page). those shakes are not meant to be your only food source.

I agree with Mutt, I only use protien drinks after workouts, or when I am in a rush. You want to be eating as much whole foods as possible.
Now, for making the shakes, use a blender, and if your trying to gain weight, use skim or 1% milk. It will taste ALOT better.

Casein protein will slow down the protein absorption to the muscles, something that you don't want to happen right after your workout. You want protein that will get to your muscles as fast as possible.

EJ ~ I'm not trying to be rude, but I did laugh out loud at the thought of mixing a protein drink in a bowl with an electric mixer! That's too cute!
