Next competition is the Scottish Heavy Athletics, the highland games. Competition is set for September 3rd at the Altamont Fair Grounds in Schenectady NY (http://scotgames.com/).
These are the events: http://www.nasgaweb.com/getstart.asp
I've got a 20+ lb hammer coming in, and a caber as well. As soon as this stuff arrives, we begin training (hopefully next saturday). Wasn't easy to get equipment, but I came through finally.
Mostly just doing this to take a break from strongman and powerlifting competition. It'll also be an excuse to wear a kilt.
Should involve a fair amount of brute strength for a good portion of the games, but I have one of the guys on the club bringing in a nationally ranked collegiate thrower. A little different than track and field (just a little bit heavier) but the concepts should be the same.
Not really looking for a competitive placing. Too much technique and not enough time. Rather its mostly for fun (we weren't originally going to even do another competition till winter) and to have something to train for.
As always, I'll keep you guys posted.
-------------- Iron and chalk.
Pain is only temporary, it is in your mind. If you can still walk, then you can still run.
