Yeah im at 8lbs now and getting higher!
I want to havew some muscle and be a bit more toned. I need to be able to pick people up so i need quite a bit of arm strength!

Nope, you don't need arm strength to pick people up. Leg and back strength is most important. If you do it properly you just position youreslf underneath their center of gravity and stand up (from a squatting slightly bent position). You're really just using your arms to hold on to them. That goes for anything in wrestling, you need to condition your arms to be able to hold on to your opponent, being able to lift with your arms really doesn't matter.

I've started going to wrestling classes. It's fun and exciting but for warm ups its just a run around the ring and touching your toes. I need to work on my uper body a bit. I go on my bike for at least half an hour everyday. so my legs are in pretty good shape but my upper body is not exactly toned any suggestions? i also need to work on my arms :surprised:

i was thinking of turning up to a regional training class at BRAWL in East Anglia, i just havent got round to it. i remember you millenia, cos someone told you to start lifting 12kg straight from 1.5kg. for strength and toning, depending on how much strength and tone you want you could use body weigt, or free weights, which i know you have from the other post. you should take a look at the resources on the site and then see if theer is anything else you want to know.

if yuo can stand on your head, i reckon you should try to press your own weight, a sort of upside down shoulder press if you get me. i think that would help with balance and body co-ordination, and also strength, which you need for the sport. standing on your head can actually help with toning, loads of tiny movements taking place when you keeping balance, like yoga i suppose. you should never under estimate the power of the press up.

Being able to press someone is only useful if you're mud-wrestling.

There's lots of things in wrestling you need to condition your arms for, but lifting isn't one of them. If you work your arms for lifting you're just wasting time you could spend training them for something you're actually going to use.

squats, rabbit jumping, bridges, flys, crunches, back extensions, towel pull ups, any excercises that work your lats, lunges, rope skipping... that's all I can think of off the top of my head

For wrestling you should do some weighted dips (triceps), bent-arm pullover (chest and back), barbell curl (biceps), squat (quads, hams, butt), curl-up (abs), seated twists (abs), wrists roller/curls (wrists).
Good Luck,

Wresting is an area where you really need strong core strength. FOcus on weight training on the back, abs (including obliques - lots of twisting yourself sideways), chest & thighs.

How's weighted dips going te help? I can't imagine a position you'd end up in in wrestling where you'd want to perform the kind of motion you do with dips.

it would help shoulder and tricep strength, so it would help over all.
