Quick question, I saw this in Menace's workout log, so I posted it here. I think I've seen it other places on the boards, too.

What does it mean when you write 3+1 or something similar for reps?

I assume it means that you got 3 reps then the spotter helped you with 1 or you got 1 that was not great form.

Even if that is right, what does it mean when you write 3+0 reps?

You got the first part exactly right...If I got assistance , failed while attempting, or cheated on a rep I'll put +1....meaning that I 'attempted' a rep..

1+0 means that it's a max ....so that at that weight I could nto get another rep....where as 1 would be a weight I can do for more reps....

Thank You.

I'm going to start a log like you and others have here (I'll be in Bodybuilding though) and I wanted to make sure that was the convention before I started using it.

I have been reading his journal for a year or more and still do not understand it. Only thing I know is he deadlifts more and benchs more! But I have him beat on squats!!!!!

LOL....dont worry mutt now that i figured out how to make that sitting shoulder press station into a squat rack with safety pins, I am going to get up my squat....still pissed my gym got those ezbar barbells with preloaded weights....whole rack....instead of a real power rack.......grr...

Matt dont worry so much about convention....do whatever is easier for u and so that u'll be able to understand it later when going back through your logs...guess what I made up my own convention...no1 ever told me to record my numbers this way .....but it's easiest way for me so I do it this way....you may want to do it differently...

Menace funny thing is I used to do exactly what you are doing now. The shoulder press station at my gym I am now gonna use for rack lock outs. Some gyms just have no clue.
