I was wondering if it's ok to take zinc during the day if you feel a cold coming on and how much zinc is too much in one day. I take 50mg. before bed as part of my ZMA. Also i've been taking my ZMA right before my pre bed meal which is cottage cheese a scoop of protein and fax seed. I don't have much time top take it before since my last meal is at 10 usually and i'm in bed at 12:30 or earlier so i just take it with my shake. I know they will probably fight for absorption so should i just skip the ZMA.

When feeling a cold or flu coming on, in the earliest stages start loading up on a regimine of Vit. C and Zinc. I have been doing this for years, and it has knocked out more colds than I can count. I do this as a boost to my immune system if for instance there is someone in my house close to me with a cold. I do it as a pre-emptive strike. There is little danger of too much of either, as when your system is under attack, vit. c and zinc normal intake restrictions go out the window, as the virus's job is erradicating your system of these very nutrients. I take 500mg. Vit. C and 30 mg. of zinc every 3 hrs. in this case. Some will say and rightly so that too much zinc can cause a copper deficiency, so if you feel like it take a multi mineral along with it. But again in the case of a virus, all rules are thrown out the window.-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

No Keith, we all just figure Justine needs a shrink.
:big_smile::big_smile::big_smile::big_smile: Just kidding Justin. I leave most supplement, nutritional and exercise discussions that BB1 is involved in alone because I learned most of what I know from him in those areas. From the ZMA to desicated liver to drop sets, he has never steered me wrong. I listen harder to him too because he has alot of years on me. I figure I'll be that old some day so I pay attention. I do go my own way sometimes on nutrition because I'd kill myself if I tried to eat as strictly as he suggests.. -------------- I drive way too fast to worry about cholesterol Charlie | |

This year, I've been exposed to alot of sick individuals (charlie's mental state not included); I have been relying heavily on an additional supplemental regimen. And I've cut back the training these last few weeks (post O) as well. I've increase my whey protein amd glutamine intake above my normal non-training levels, as well as added zinc gluconate and vitamin c qid, in addtion to my regular multi. I've also been forcing myself to get a little more sleep. It's been working like a charm.-------------- Michael Trample the weak; hurdle the dead! Chaos, Panic, Disorder.... One more thing:
I never take my zinc and vitmain c together; usually 1 hour apart. Since the zinc is sub-lingual, the vitamin c can negatively effect the absorbtion of the zinc. -------------- Michael Trample the weak; hurdle the dead! Chaos, Panic, Disorder.... Thanks for the help guys, so how should i handle the pre bed situation i have...as i see absorption is pretty important is an hour after eating to early to take ZMA then an hour later my pre bed meal? I've had great success with just using lots of vit. C so i can't to see how much more zinc will help.
Hey charlie can you give me your shrinks number?:laugh: Please guys drop the e at the end of justin makes me sounds like a girl. the E is for my middle name Eli thats why i put in capita letters to try and ward off the mix up and i'd hope the pictures would help as well:laugh::big_smile: |

ahhh...grasshopper....we learn as we grow.
Zinc is required for the development and activation of T-lymphocytes, a kind of white blood cell that helps fight infection. When zinc supplements are given to individuals with low zinc levels(which is what happens when a cold or flu strikes), the numbers of T-cell lymphocytes circulating in the blood increase and the ability of lymphocytes to fight infection improves. As I noted in paranthesis, and I will say again, this is exactly what is needed when a cold/virus hits you. The virus straps your ability to fight the infection, this is where the increase in Vit. c and zinc work, and best at the earliest stages. As I mentioned, I have used this protocol for more years than I can count, and still do. Everyone in my house was sick just 2-3 weeks ago. I immediateley started loading up with Vit. C and zinc, and I never got it. ============ Quoting from JustinE22: i can't to see how much more zinc will help. -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |
