The book my husband is reading on gaining mass says under the supplement section in bold letters that ZMA is for men only.
I have read that women should take a lower dosage than that recommended on the bottle, but not that we shouldn't use it at all.
He tells me it's because ZMA is geared towards supplementing the male hormone levels.. I would like to know more, if anyone could share some insight or even good links they know of I'd appreciate it.

The main focus of ZMA is in the zinc, maganesium, and B-6. Most companies will list the doseage for a man and woman. The womens is always smaller. Many companies add some proprietary mixture to their ZMA, such as NAC, etc. If you are worried about this, why not just buy zinc, magnesium and b6 and make your own. The quality sleep is in itself worth it. The fact that it is claimed to raise testosterone levels comes the sleep portion. Healing, tissue repair, etc. occurs then, and this in itself is a testosterone boost. Believe it or not, testosterone is necessary in a female also.(a fall in sex drive in a woman for example can be from a fall in testosterone).

it probably says that because the men who wrote the book are afraid that the women who take zma will cease to be delicate little flowers and gain a little muscle. i have been taking zma for a while now, and i have had no ill side effects. i'm sleeping better and i feel like my recovery process has been boosted. i know asimmer takes the stuff too, and she looks pretty darn good.
i am certainly not adding anything knowledgeable to bb1's post, but my experience with zma has been great. i take 2 at night as opposed to the 3 recommended for men. it actually says on my bottle "women: take 2 capsules." i guess that's all i can really add.

Yes, I cannot really see any problems in taking ZMA. It's just like another supp called Tribulus Terrestris; it's meant to raise the test levels as well and works fine for females.
The only prob I can see is that it'll take a little longer for females to see any results since the supps are all natural and we have 20 times less testosterone than men! :surprised:
