I recently broke my wrist and have been taking in extra calcium during my recovery. now that i have my cast off and am getting back into the gym i wanted to also try ZMA. I know they don't reccomend taking ZMA with dairy products or other calcium supplements but does anyone know what effect this has? does is just throw off the balance of calcium in the ZMA or will it have a negative effect on my health?

Taking your ZMA with Calcium will decrease the absorbtion of the Zinc. Your body likes to break things down in particular order, and if you take Calcium with ZMA, the body will prioritize the absorbtion of the calcium over the Zinc, and, therefore, the Zinc will not be taken in entirely, if in fact, at all.

Michael is right on as usual. Try to take your ZMA at least a couple hours separated from your calcium.

If calcium, zinc, magnesium and b vitamins are all in multivitamins then how can they work that well?

That's the problem with many multi's that are on the market: They tend to just throw together a whole bunch of stuff, and call it complete. Instead, these, and many other ingredients, should be taken at different times, or at least be composed with a time-release mechanism to allow different absorbtion rates of the different nutrients.

Yep, exactly why I rarely take a multi. I have for years opted for individual vitamins/minerals. If something is a new and hot nutrient like Lycopene, ALA, etc. for instance, all of a sudden they will all holler we have added that to ours! Many vitamins work best synergystically, but many do not and compete for absorbtion. For example, Vit. A and luetin. These are best taken separately, as well as luetin from beta carotene for the same reason.

Yes, in fact that is quite optimal. 2 hrs. is a pretty good time frame.
