This seems to be one of the 2 main questions that new people ask. (The other being about abs but I will get to that.) The simple answer is Yes! Is it easy? Well no, but what good thing ever is? You have to listen to the advice of people who have been doing this longer and actually DO what is suggested. If you, in the beginning, decide that you are going to tweak it this way or that way then you most likely will not get the results you are looking for. You have to work the program in order for it to work. It is not something that you will necessarily see results in a week or two. Fitness is a commitment.
Now on to the abs question.... How do I get 6 pack or toned abs? DIET! Now when I say diet I don't mean cut calories down to nothing. (I am 5'7 135 Female and eat between 1800-2000 cals per day people)I mean a clean healthy diet that will decrease the fat layer on your body. You can NOT NOT NOT spot reduce and just see abs. The fat will be lost over your entire body! There is no magic exercise and definitely no magic pill that will make your abs pop out. Abs are 99% diet. Now the above 2 questions have been asked time after time on this forum and within the chat room. There is a ton of knowledge here and people are so very willing to help and give great guidance, but please don't expect a quick fix to your health and fitness issues. Good luck to everyone! -------------- My Catahoula did it. I saw a book titled "Sex for Dummies" and wondered why anyone would teach dumb people how to reproduce? |

Hi! I just joined this site tonight. A friend and I currently use a personal trainer at the gym. We love it. I wanted to try this for those times when the trainer is not available (he is a full time student as well).
I am a 27 year old Registered Nurse from Palm Springs, CA. I love my job! I recently (May 22) finalized my divorce to a very mentally and verbally abusive (older) man. I got tired of him constantly putting me down for my weight. He actually had gonads big enough to tell me (one day after graduating from nursing school) "You have gained an enormous amount of weight in nursing school. I am not attracted to you and eventually I will not love you anymore." Now keep in mind that he is about 60 pounds overweight himself. He justifies is though...he thinks it's okay for a man to carry a little extra weight. Anyway...enough about that jerk! I am here to change my life, start exercising 4-5 days a week, eat healthy! Hope it works...seems to be FULL of useful info and helpful tips. -------------- Every journey begins with a single step. \"There are only two ways to live your life. Well it seems I'm a LOT older than everyone else. I've been graduallly gaining weight since my youth. I was tall and slim and very active. As I became older and slowed down, I gradually increased my weight. I was never conscious of it though until my early 40's when things began to get out of control. My loud, noisy, grating knees finally stopped being noisy and my knees no longer allowed me to run up and down stairs or inclines. The hernia I developed from hard work also slowed me down. I began to gain weight quickly. The heavier I became the less active I became. Now I'm in a Catch 22 situation. I've never dieted and don't know where to start. I don't really believe in diets. I just have to figure out how to eat less and exercise more.

Hello everyone. I am 29 years old and used to be in good shape until I hurt my back. I have slight issues with the L3/4/5 and S1 so I am trying to work around it. Needless to say, running is difficult but manageable. I really want to trim off about 10% body fat. Wish me luck.

Hi all!
My name is Vicki and I have been overweight for the last 21 years. It has only been recently that I finally figured out I really need to do more than just think about losing the weight. I am hoping that I can get back into an active lifestyle and stay there. Until one unfortunate day when I was 16 I was super active and then went to being super inactive literally overnight. My max weight is 229 and I am currently at 192 doing it my way but am looking for something better. I really hope this works as I don't believe in diet pills and feel that putting forth the effort of trying to eat healthy and exercise will make it all that much better. Good luck to all that are trying to lose weight and improve their bodies for whatever reason! |

Hi! I'm Katrina. I don't have much to lose...10-15 lbs, BUT, obesity runs in my family and along with it comes heart disease and diabetes. I've noticed a huge drop in my metabolism since I turned 30 and I want to head this off before it becomes a problem. I have no desire to be 'skinny', but I do want to be stronger and healthier!

Hi, I'm Jess I'm from Northeast Wi. I have a very busy life and, because of this, have seriously been neglecting my health. I have free access to a realy nice gym and I don't even us it! I don't really know much about working out and lifitng weights though so I am really hoping this program helps. It's time to change my life around. I am 26 and have two step kids and a daughter, my wife has a debilitating illness, I work full time and go to school fulltime. Do you think I can fit this in!?! I sure want to try.

Hey all. I'm Dave. I'm a happily married 27 year old guitar playing hard working guy. I love my wife and want to be as healthy and attractive as possible for her. I used to visit the gym regularly and was in great shape. However, after meeting my wife I devoted so much time to her that eventually I stopped going to the gym (I'm in no way blaming her!). I'm 5'9" tall and weigh 176 pounds. I am trying to cut down to about 160 pounds seeing as how most of my extra weight is being carried around my midsection! At my strongest I weighed in at 160 and was benching 270 pounds and in great shape. I've still managed to carry a bit of muscle in my chest and arms, but I've put on the belly weight that EVERYONE wants to shave off. So here I am seeking words of encouragement and offering it to others. Nice to meet everyone!

I see a lot of you on here and for the life of me can't figure out why you are here. Some of you are only half my weight.
So enlighten me and tell me why you are here? I know I'm here to get back in shape and get my diabetes back under control. Not to be half the size I am now. Hi everyone! My name is Candice, I'm still in high school. I want to lose weight because I want to not just look good, but feel good. I lost my grandfather 3 months ago to emphyzema (spelling?) and it was the first time I'd ever experienced death or anything like that, and I do not believe it was his time to go and he is missing out on a lot of amazing things here. So, I'm going to take a tip from him and be healthy. I want to be around for awhile and not have to say goodbye to my family and people who love me early; that's the most important thing to me more than anything else.
I have about 25 lbs. to lose, unfortunately I let myself go too far and I think I'm too young to be overweight so I might as well fix it now before it gets worse because it most likely will haha. Most of it is around my waist and my stomache, which is weird because women usually gain around their legs and thighs but my legs are pretty small compared to my waistline. My biggest problem is committment. I have started 68587561564 diets, and stuck with none but glutton. I need someone to be there to push me and keep me motivated and FORCE me to stick-wid-it! So that's what I think I need the most support-wise. I'm going back to Greece this summer, so I want to look good in my bikini' you know flat abs and all :D I know it'll be hard work but I'm going to try my hardest this time, because I can't take it anymore and I REALLY REALLY WANT IT. :) Wish me Luck! -------------- --Candice!<3 |

Hi I am new here and this site seems really great. I work for a fast food corporation so you can imagine how difficult it can be for me to stay in shape. Luckily we have a gym that is free to all employees so naturally, I want to take advantage. For my first three months I was only temporary, so I didn't have access to the gym so the only exercise I got was jogging for an hour five days a week (lunch breaks). Now I'm trying to get a routine going in the gym. I am 29, 5'4" and currently weigh 130-135 (I fluctuate). According to the BMI this is still a healthy weight, but I'm not satisfied with how I look. Sure my legs are tone from running, but I hate my belly and I wish my arms were stronger and more tone looking. I tried the first day of exercises and it just didn't feel like enough to me. Am I just being impatient?

Hi, I am a 34 year old single mom. I attend school full time and work full time. That equals 3 full time jobs! Needless to say, I find it difficult to carve out time for exercising and I'm just getting a handle on controlling my diet by doing as much cooking as possible. Like many here, I have had success in the past in losing weight, but have not found success in keeping it off. It seems that major life changes, like having a child, deciding to go to school full time while working full time, and moving to another state can throw you off your game and make you lose your focus on weight loss and healthy eating habits.
Well, I'm happy to say that I am about to finish my four-year degree program and now that I work closer to my home, I am ready to start again. This time I want to concentrate on everything that affects my weight at once. Diet & exercise. And I want to make a serious lifestyle change that I can pass on to my son. I'm looking forward to a little give and take of encouragement from this forum. I hope I find what I need here. |

Hello, I'm here to lose weight. I've always been over-weight, but in the past year i've gained 30lbs. I graduated college, started a job I hated, planned a wedding, changed jobs, and moved twice. I'm now in a place that I enjoy and realize how much I've let myself go. I've yo-yo dieted more times than I can count, but I have no dead-lines for myself this time and no one to impress. I want to do this the healthy, long-term way.

Hi, my name is Amber. I've never been very overweight, but I've always had this little bit of weight I've never been happy about. I'm about 5'6" and 144 lbs. I hope to weigh about 125 when I can get there. I know I can lose weight, I just battle myself when it comes to food. That's a really difficult challenge for me and I have to concentrate on winning the small battles so I can win the war. I've been exercising for a long time, but I'm stepping it up now and really putting my heart into it so I can see changes. Any advice anyone can give me or tips would be welcome!

Oh, and also, I gained about 15 pounds last year ( and worked it off) but in the process caused knee problems that have plagued me since so running is out of the question and aerobics is difficult. Does anyone know how to get my knees back in shape?
Also, my motivation is becoming healthier, not having knee pain, and being hot for my husband when he comes back from basic training (though he hasn't left yet). I really just want to be healthier. |

Hey everyone,
I am here to lose weight, to be plain and simple about it. I am 5'8" and weigh 215 lbs. I would love to lose about 40lbs. I am 23 years old and have been overweight since I was 13. I have been teased about my weight for many years and it never really bothered me until lately. Even my friends make remarks about it. I have a hard time going to clubs and parties because I feel somewhat self-concious about what I look like to others. I have thought about and done dieting and going to the gym in the past, but I guess my will power was not up to par because they never lasted. I figure it's about time to finally make a change for the better. I am a full-time University/College student working towards getting my Nursing Degree. I want to be able to meet the demands of the job! I also want to be able to take my shirt off at the beach during the summer, to be able to dance at a club and not have people make faces because a fat guy is dancing (the thing is that I CAN actually dance:laugh:). |

Hello everyone, my name is amanda.
I just found and joined this today. I am really excited to get started. I am 21 years old and am a full time senior in college (I graduate in August ). I have been over weight my entire life. When I started college I lost about 20 lbs the first year (strange, I know) and then worked hard last spring to lose 15 more. however, I have been lazy and gained almost all of those 15 back. So now I am working to lose those 15 and hopefully more. I am looking forward to helping to encourage others and looking forward to the support I may find!! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!! -------------- forever is composed of nows-- emily dickinson |

Hi everyone! I have been going to the gym and running 5 days a week for 6 months without the results I need. Basically I have gotten stronger and lost some inches but not any weight. To look at me most people think i am healthy just "thick" with broad features. Meaning i have a braod chest and shoulders and i naturally have musclar calfs and thighs...but its too much for me now and i have tried everything known to man to try to loose 20 ldbs and I can't get it right. I dont have time for a personal trainers schedule, which is one of the reasons why i am here. The other is assistance because my diet must be wrong.
Anyway, I am ready to work and eager to work. I am game to any suggestions! |

Hi, I'm Lyssa comin' to ya from the midwest! My boyfriend is a fitness freak! He's so athletic and loves weight lifting. I'm so fortunate to have his support through all of my weight gain. He does want me to lose weight and has tried all he can to help (buys various equipment, vitamins, pills, etc.) but instead of losing, I just keep gaining! I'm glad he hasn't given me the verbal abuse that I see some others have received from their significant others. It's not just a matter of appearance, but also health. I've already had to have my galbladder removed and still have horrible pains and other gastro problems. Several tests have been run and I got tired of them all so I said, "I'll just live with it. I'm tired of seeing doctors!" But we think if I can commit to losing weight and getting healthy, these problems may disappear on their own.
Good luck to you all! |

Hey! I'm Julie, 18, and a freshman in college. I need to lose the weight to get back down to my healthy weight. Yeah, my eating habits were not good the first semester at school.

I am new to this site....I have been overweight most of my life....I have done every diet you can imagine...from cabbage soup to fasting...and nothing worked....so my best friend and I decided to have "The Surgery" well thank God she went through it pretty well and then it was my turn...well of course there were complications (that is my luck)......I don't blame the surgeon..I think he saved my life...but Deb thinks it was because of him I had the problems I had...well to shorten my story...after a long road traveled....I am gaining weight....and it scares me to death....I hope to God I didn't go through all of this to end up where I started....I refuse tooooooo.......so here I am...hopefully getting ahead of this eating addiction that I have and hope to gain the self control I need to diet and excerise...I truly wish you all luck and let's see where this journey leads us....here we go...my start is Dec.31...I'll keep trying if you will....

Hey everyone... I'm Tina. Just joined a small gym in the building I work in and needed some guidance for weight loss and toning. Having this gym be in the same building was more than enough reason for me to get healthy anf fit. I have tried so many diets and bought so many workout tpes or dvd's it is ridiculous. I just don't have the motivation or time in the evenings when I get home to do any of them. Hopefully now I can work out on my lunch breaks or right after work. I hope everyone reaches whatever goals they set for themselves. I think with God's help we all can. -------------- Peace and Blessings... Tina |

Hi. I am 17 and i want to really just get in shape. I will be going to college this fall and will be in the marching band program. I am in enough shape to get through the high school program but im not sure about college. Losing weight would be a major plus too. I have a hard time losing weight in my house because my mom is a vegetarian and my stepdad eats all the time and only weighs like 150. I just want to get in shape and lose some of my wieght.
