good idea, amy

I thought that weighing myself once a week would be the best way to track fat loss, but I think you're right, photos are probably the way to go :)

Pre-comp we took polaroids every two weeks, and now I have a neat flip book of my transformation. You would be suprised how you see change every two weeks. Even when it is just the slightest bit more definition, it is exciting. And my scale was definitely not telling the same story, so I had to stop weighing myself, as it was becoming a head game and sort of defeating me.

Amy, stop giving the princess ideas about digitals!!!!
My weekend was not too bad. My cheats were apple pie, and cannelonni (home made of coarse, and nobody knew they were laced with 90 grams of protein powder!) I'll post today's later because I am getting the boot from my wife who uses MY computer to work!
(Home offices are terrible)!

Yep, it becomes very visual the lower in bodyfat you get. For instance, if you have a drop of 1/2% bodyfat at 7% it will make a dramatic showing in your physique, as compared to a 3% drop when you are at 18%.

..fitnscosmogrl..,we will start posting here as the other thread was getting too long. Glad your getting better. If you have the energy to do that routine then go for it, just watch for symptoms of overtraining, and get some more real food in to you.
Today was weird. felt like I was missing some food.
7:15 started with a coffee.
8:00 yougurt
9:15 trained
10:30 PWO shake
11:45 high protein/fibre cereal
12:45 7 oz canned shrimp (discusting, I didn't know they had to be rinsed, and they were salty like anchovies!) with salsa, tomatoe, lettuce, cucumber salad with olive oil and apple cider vinegar, slice of grain bread, and cup of green tea.
3:30 handful of almonds and cashews (raw).
4:00 MRP
6:00 lean beef stew, turnips, sweet potatoes, carrots, celery.
9:00 Cafe latte at starbucks
10:15: as I type this a protein shake.
Then bed.

Good to see you are feeling better, fitnscosmogirl. Your food looks better, too. Try your new schedule and see how you feel - you may have to increase food a little, but see how it goes.

Ivan - I remember being sooo hungry pre-comp that I would eat pesto herring out of the can because they were protein and good fat, at the time I thought they were soooo good. Tried them a while back, disgusting!

Here is my good day yesterday!

Monday

6:30am bodybuilder pancakes, SF syrup
coffee and sweetener

10:00 some leftover pork,
refried beans
rice (a 1/4, maybe)
lettuce and pico de gallo
Took my vitamins!

12:00 Workout

2:15 PWO shake (ON whey chocolate, maltodextrin,
dextrose, creatine &glutamine)

4:30 1/2 a large sweet potato, baked
olive oil spread
chicken breast meat

7:30 Healthy Choice chicken soup with rice(and some
veggies) (24g cho)
additional chicken breast meat

9:00 made 'pudding' with the Beverly Int'l cookies and cream flavor ultimate protein. Not as good as I had hoped, but tasty and filling....

Night off yesterday. I have decided to call it a night off rather than a cheat night, because "cheat" is too emotive a word, and I don't think it's helpful.

08.30 cottage cheese
11.30 porridge, yoghurt, slice of bread with PB
14.30 soup, cheese and apple
18.00 Jambalaya
over course of evening had 3 glasses of red wine, crackers with tuna/PB another cheese slice, a protein bar and cottage cheese.

Total Calories 2300

I also didn't workout because I'm feeling like crap at the moment with a virus thing.

I'd be interested to know what other people think about my calories for my night off - is 2300 excessive?
cheers

Probably not, an occasional influx of extra calories can rev your metabolism, if you are lean. Andf I would guess that 1500 -1600 is actually kind of low for you, how much do you weigh (if you don't mind my asking)?

Princess according to your weight, I think 2300 is excessive.
Lets see what Asimmer has to say.
I know today for me was a write off in the calorie dept. I was way under and that's just as bad as being way over.
7:00 coffee with yogurt
9:00 trained
10:30 Pwo shake
Had to go do some stuff today did a lttle running around.
11:45 MrP in the truck.
12:15 coffee
1:00 coffee
2:30 lousy atkin's ccokies n cream bar.
3:30 handfull of almonds and cashews (raw) and yogurt.
5:30 bbq'd lean burger, pickle, salsa, tomatoe, broccoli, picco di gallo (think I put to much cilantro).
8:00 coffee and half a cookie.
Missed alot of food today!

The least amount of calories you probably need in a day.
1600 - 1700 is probably a good range for you, especially if you are seeing results.

Ivan - 2300 is excessive, but she doesn't do it on a regular basis. An occasional influx of calories like that can help.

I must be tired this morning, I actually wondered what a Mr. P was that you had in the truck. Figured it out (MRP):)

fitnscosmogirl - If you want to get better results from your weight training, dextrose and maltodextrin will do you better than gatorade. The malto-dextrin is called carbgainer- it comes in a big jug , the dextrose is in a smaller bag. i found them both at Nutrition City, but you can probably get them online.

Okay - busy day yesterday - drove out of town to do a consultation and train someone.. but I did well because I planned my meals!!!!!

Tuesday
pre-breakfast water, creatine, glutamine

6:30 1/2c oatmeal
1 egg, 5 whites
cinnamon, splenda, nutmeg, allspice, ginger
mixed all and made pancakes, better than i thought
it would be (out of cottage cheese)
coffee, SF sweetener
oh, SF syrup on the 'cakes

9:15 on the road - large honeycrisp apple (the bomb!)
protein shake - chocolate muscle provider..yummy

12:30 on the way home... Myoplex lite.

shopping..got that cottage cheese!

Propel water...

3:15 Healthy Choice chicken noodle soup with
added chiken breast strips (chili-lime, very tasty)
vitamins

5:30 cardio, abs

creatine, glutamine, anti-oxidants

6:30 chicken breast strips (chili lime, mm)
baked sweet potato strips (coat w/olive oil,
bake 30-45 minutes at 400)mmm
green salad with sprinkle of walnuts and
tsp Newman's olive oil and vinegar dressing

9:00 cottage cheese, yogurt, walnuts.

Amy, thankyou very much for taking the time to work that out for me, sometimes when I don't see a result (like this week, due to water retention) I start to question if I'm on the right track, so your advice helps a lot.

Unfortunately I am feeling really grim just now, and I don't think it's clever to try to cut and fight a flu-like virus at the same time, so I'm going to try go back to maintenance calories 1900-2000 until I feel fit again.

Hope you fell better soon Mary, and my advice for the flu-like virus to you is this: "Take 2 asprin and call me in the morning"! Sorry just couldn't resist. Seiously though, take care of yourself, and do have home made chicken soup. Major protein bosster especially if you throw in the chicken feet, as they contain very nutricious ingredients.
I'll post my meals tonight. We are going to a steak house for my son and wifes birthday.

fitnscosmogirl - I think that is the best eating day I have seen from you yet - good work!
I am starting to feel under the weather, also. All I wanted to do today was sleep. Maybe we are all passing it around here?

6ish I had my anti-oxidant drink mix with my creatine and glutamine

6:30 I was too lazy/tired to make pancakes today, so I threw my 1/2c oatmeal, some frozen strawberries and whey protein into the blender with water and had that.

took a nap...
10Am Green Apple protein drink , needed something quick before training client

11:15 Morningstar farms spicy black bean burger
chicken breast strips
lettuce mix (romaines)
salsa
1 1/2 lg carrots, tiny bit of lite ranch dressing
vitamin pak
12:15 workout, sucky - sore and tired

2:00 PWO shake (high point of my day) Syntrax Roadside
Lemonade protein in crystal lite lemonade with
dextrose/malto dextrin (Very tasty)

4:15/30 detour bar
94% FF popcorn
diet rite cola

7:00 Healthy Choice chicken soup with rice
extra chicken strips

Before I go to sleep (soon) I will probably have a shake, I am not really hungry, though.

5:00 yogurt and a few nuts
6:30 140z sirloin, with baked potatoe and glass of tomatoe juice and a few peices of a fried yes fried onion blossom.

I know you can get viruses on a computer but this is ridiculous!
Sorry about spreading my illness like that guys!

The bad news is the fever and myalgia last 4 days, and once that's finished the sore throat and snotty nose start!

I feel better in myself now anyway.

yesterday:

10.00 porridge, bread with yeast extract, yoghurt
13.00 chicken and veg soup, cheese slice, apple
14.30 2 squares of milk chocolate (inexcusable, I know)
16.30 chicken breast with red pepper sauce, steamed brocolli and cabbage, kiwi fruit
20.00 tuna and bean salad
23.30 protein bar
02.00 cottage cheese

cals 1560

I am going to try to stick to the 1600-1700 range from now on. Tomorrow will be a big problem, as I am going to my Mum's for tea for the first time in a while. I am going to have to write it off as another night off, however I will stick to the plan otherwise.
I am hoping that I will be able to get back to the gym today or tomorrow too.

princess - eat something like a protein shake on the way to Mum's and then enjoy a cup of tea and maybe a little tatse of something. Family is hard because food = love/companionship, but you can gently say 'no thanks' and they should respect your desire to reach a specific goal.

Glad you are feeling better! Don't overdo it at the gym and relapse.

I took my ZMA last night and feel more refreshed today.

I got ot the point where I would bring my rice, chicken and broccoli in tupperware to my parent's house.... They started serving more chiken and veggies. It all works out.

Sorry - in my brain "Scottich Tea' is something like oat scones with clotted cream, and maybe a side of haggis:)

yes that's "afternoon tea" - confusing, isn't it?

My mum's idea of tea(evening meal) is:

starter - anything from smoked salmon if I'm lucky to crisps and dips if I'm not

main course - usually meat and veg but veg may include roast potatoes

cheese course (yes I know - tremendously decadent)

pudding (take your daily calorie intake for the day and multiply by 3.....)

coffee and chocolates

oh yes and lots of wine to wash it all down with.

Damage limitation is the name of the game.

"Ivan - what's a balcan?:

It's a culture (as in people) around the Adriatic and Black seas. The yogurt is thicker, 100% natural, with real fruit at the bottomand it's not stirred. So when you eat it, it is like a sundae, but upside down. Hope I explained it ok. They sell for about .99 They have a higher fat content and avg protein, but made from real yeast cultures. The taste is great.

Amy, I'm sure you'd be welcome at my Mum's - as she gets older she is trying to feed everyone up :)
The really cool thing about that meal was that they were sicillian recipies as she's just back from a cycling holiday in sicilly - she and my Dad cycled 250 miles with 15000ft ascent over 6 days. This is probably why they can eat like this every weekend and stay at 120lbs and 145lbs respectively!

I had a small blip yesterday...

10.30 porridge, bread with yeast extract, yoghurt
13.30 soup, cheese slice and apple
17.00 turkey stir fry, kiwi fruit
20.00 protein bar
00.30 small (100ml) tub icecream (in my defence my throat was on fire and this was the only thing I could handle eating until the painkillers kicked in)
01.30 tuna salad
02.30 two throat sweets
03.30 cottage cheese

cals - 1800

Well it was a weekend of birthdays.
Yesterday was my wifes' birthday and tomorrow is my son.
Yesterday I ate good food, my regular stuff, shakes, proteins, good fats, except supper was rice noodles with beef in black bean sauce, general tao chicken, (fried no no!) hunan dumplings, 1 eggroll (another no no!) and shrimp won ton soup.
Later came the rich butter icing chocoalte cake.

Today I had a little more crap, like honey wheat pretzels, Chips, a heinekin (first since August 1). Lasagna with my home made pasta, and more cake (Strawberry shortcake.) Tomorrow it's back to good food, and exercise.
Treat your bodies as if it were a temple!!

desecrate:
verb
to damage or show a lack of respect towards something holy or highly respected:
The mosque/shrine was desecrated by vandals.

I didn't make it to the gym yesterday, I thought I was better, but have now developed a cough :(

12.00 porridge, yoghurt, bread +PB
15.00 soup, cheese, apple
16.00 popcorn at the cinema. My bad.
18.00 salmon fillet, steamed brocolli and cabbage. Kiwi fruit
22.00 tuna on toast
01.00 rice cakes+ yeast extract
03.00 cottage cheese - usually I eat 1/2tub but I was starving and ate the whole tub. I couldn't workout why I was so hungry at the time, but looking back at my meal times, I understand.

Cals - 1800 approx.

I am finding it extremely hard to stay focused whilst I feel ill and unable to train. This thread is helping.
Yesterday I also worked out my new exercise plan for the next 8 weeks, I can't wait to get started!

Hey, there was a discussion about training in the am vs pm. I really have no choice, I have to go in the morning when I get up or not at all. The day is so freakin' packed for my anymore. I don't have to leave for work until 9a, so should I really get up around 5:30a and have breakfast and wait to go train? Or should I get up, have a little something and then go? Sorry if I have hi-jacked the thread.

If you eat something where the energy gets into your bloodstream quickly you can exercise soon afterwards (about 30 minutes) - so a protein shake mixed with water, or a banana for example.
If you eat something more slowly absorbed then you have to wait, otherwise you are exercising with the energy all still trapped in your gut, your body still thinks it's starving and uses muscle tissue as an energy source.

You haven't hijacked the thread at all and if you want to post what you are eating, I'm sure we will all be happy to give you pointers :)

Can I join and post what I eat? I know I need the accountability and the constant reminder of what needs to change and to eat more!! Can I crash the party?

Is that what she told you it was, Ivan?

Welcome on board folks, the more the merrier :)

WAnglais1, that diet seems ok to me. As you have brought up, something before you workout might be good.
The other thing I thought would be something last thing at night before you go to bed.

Today I was saved by this post again. I was contemplating buying a bottle of wine and I thought to myself, "I can't possibly post that I've had wine again", and so I stuck to water :)
