So I am sitting here at possibly the best job I have had, wanting to leave and find a new job. WHAT is the matter with me. The work is not that hard, I get paid well 10k more than I have ever made.....so why am I so unhappy at it. I have to shake this and get motivated again! Is it possbily tied to my hatred of what I am doing in the gym?

Mutt - Only who can tell if they are related. If you think they are you may have to re-evaluate you lifting goals before other aspects of your life are affected. I know it is hard, but you have to forget the weight you used to lift. You are not that person any longer. The process you went through and will continue to go through has taken a toll on your body. Set some lower more realistic goals for your new size. Remember this is not a race, but a marathon.

I know this is easier said than done, but you have to find a way to forget or at least realize that those weights are probably not achievable with all you have been through, and that is OK. I am not telling you anything that you do not already know, but set some lower goals and build up from there. You can still be as strong as a bull, just a smaller bull. You probably will end up being stronger pound for pound than you were before. If you ever need or want to talk let me know and I can shoot you my number. You have recognized the problem, make sure you fix it before it takes over your life. Good Luck Bro

LOL it has already taken over.....I know this is screwed up but reaching a 475lb Dl is all I think about, squatting 500 is another and a 405 bench is yet another. I guess I was a bit un-prepared for the enormity of what the surgery would do.

Mutt, you never know. Those numbers could come true for you again some day. But how long did it take you to get there in the first place?? I'm sure it wasn't an overnight thing. You can for sure make those long term goals, but you do have to look at them as long term, and set smaller goals for short term to keep you going. :)

Well once I actually started training for it about 6mo to a year to get those numbers....I guess I am unsure as to what a short term goal is for me now.....

Well..I would say then make your long term goal of those numbers for 2 years(you are afterall recovering from a major surgery) and maybe split the number in half for short term goal?

Remember what we talked about? Let go of the past!!! Do it and do it now:angry: If you keep feeding yourself these negative thoughts you won't reach your goal. All the negativity will turn into more depression and drag you down further. You see, it's already affecting you job. Let go now. Focus only on the good things in your life, believe me, there are more than you might think. You have to want to let go! Don't give a crap about what was, you shouldn't care, it's the NOW and the FUTURE that counts. Do not give into those negative thoughts anymore, all they do is keep you from being your best! Hang in there:love:

You are looking at this thru the wrong window. Instead of looking at the # of lbs that you are lifting, look at the % of lifting weight compared to bodyweight. Example - your last workout before the surgery (if i looked at it right) for your bench was 295lbs - at that time you were around 310 lbs which was 96% lw to bw. Now you are lifting 225lbs. Say you are now 250lbs. That is 90% lw to bw. Not alot of difference there. maybe 70 lbs of difference on the bar but only 6% of difference compared to your bodyweight. And as you lose more weight and your bench goes up, that % will get closer then exceed where you were. This should apply to all of the lifts. In a nutshell, you are not that far off what you were doing

LOL problem is that I donot see that. I see my max bench at 325 at 310lbs and see now at 225lbs bench at 250lb body weight......

To match where you were at your strongest (right before MAJOR surgery) you will have to only get to 262lbs bench at the same weight that you are. It took you a while to get to the 325 so it will take you a while to get to the same %given your lower bodyweight. As Guns n Roses says, "Just a little patience.."

Squat 225x5

Those sound good.
benching 325lbs at 250lbs would be the same as trying to bench 403 at 310lbs

I like what ka said....you're going to be strong as a bull...just a smaller one...mutt my love...you being upset about your progress is exactly the same as a women who had her baby yesterday...and wants to walk out of the hospital wearing the same pants she was wearing the day she got pregnant...what would you tell her???Ahh...but you know all this darlin'...positive thinking is a wonder...count your blessings...when you forget how blessed you are things tend to go badly...glad you were able to have a nice party with your wife!!!:)
2006/11/20, 05:14 PM
I think smaller goals will be more realistic and more motivating for you as you'll be far more likely to achieve them.

Good luck

Oh great now I am a woamn?

ANyway, last night at the gym I had a great chest workout. Actually hit 185x7 then went on for 8 sets of speed bench. I am very tired this morning I slept like a log last night. I am so thankfull for you all and the support I got yesterday! I took what everyone said and I feel a lot better about where I am. I also found some info on gastric bypass and powerlifting and read about a woman that had it and got into powerlifting after the surgery...she won her weight class! So it is doable.

The new maxes I want to hit are
Bench 275
DL 405
Squat 315

I know the DL is high but I am already close to 335 so I feel I can hit 405.

Ok, had a couple of good workouts and I hope to build on them. This week starts a new cycle of ME exercises. For bench I will focus on Military presses and Dips, and legs will be GM.

Not sure if I posted this but I did deadlifts a bit ago and went to use my old belt and it is now to big! Even on the last set of holes it is at least 2-3 inches to big. Now I have to find a new one.

He said it was mostly in relation to the dad who got lost up here in the mountains that they found dead, and what would he do...what if he died, who would take care of us....is his faith strong enough...lots of things. I completely understand, but it's one of those conversations I don't think you are ever really prepaired for ya know?

IT is hard for us guys...we do not really understand the "carrying the baby thing" we have no way to really know it is there but for the growing belly and the odd kick. But for most of us we think about things like that all the TIME. It consumes me even now....

Found it....this song is by Will Smith...what a daddy's love is all about I think...it's long but good..

From the first time the doctor placed you in my arms
I knew Id meet death before Id let you meet harm
Although questions arose in my mind would I be man enough
Against wrong choose right and be standin up
From the hospital that first night
Took a hour just ta get the carseat in right
People drivin all fast got me kinda upset
Got you home safe placed you in your basonette
That night I dont think one wink I slept
As I slipped out my bed to your crib I crept
Touched your head gently felt my heart melt
Cause I know I loved you more than life itself
Then to my knees and I begged the lord please
Let me be a good daddy all he needs
Love knowledge discipline too
I pledge my life to you

Chorus

Just the two of us we can make it if we try
Just the two of us just the two of us
Just the two of us building castles in the sky
Just the two of us you and i

Verse 2

Five years old bringin comedy
Everytime I look at you I think man a little me
Just like me
Wait an see gonna be tall
Makes me laugh cause you got your dads ears an all
Sometimes I wonder what you gonna be
A general a doctor maybe a mc
Haha I wanna kiss you all the time
But I will test that butt when you cut outta line trudat
Uh uh uh why you do dat
I try to be a tough dad but you be makin me laugh
Crazy joy when I see the eyes of my baby boy
I pledge to you I will always do
Everything I can
Show you how to be a man
Dignity integrity honor an
An I dont mind if you lose long as you came with it
An you can cry aint no shame it it
It didnt work out with me an your mom
But yo push come to shove
You was conceived in love
So if the world attacks and you slide off track
Remember one fact I got your back

Chorus

Verse 3

Its a full time job to be a good dad
You got so much more stuff than I had
I gotta study just to keep with the changin times
101 dalmations on your cd rom
See me im
Tryin to pretend I know
On my pc where that cd go
But yo aint nuthin promised one day Ill be gone
Feel the strife but trust life does go wrong
But just in case
Its my place
To impart
One day some girls gonna break your heart
And ooh aint no pain like from the opposite sex
Gonna hurt bad but dont take it out on the next son
Throughout life people will make you mad
Disrespect you and treat you bad
Let God deal with the things they do
Cause hate in your heart will consume you too
Always tell the truth say your prayers
Hold doors pull out chairs easy on the swears
Youre living proof that dreams do come true
I love you and Im here for you

Chorus to fade
